Invitation to join a new group.
Deb57 and I live in medium-sized cities in central Illinois, and we recently discovered that each of us lives in a 100-year-old home. Homes such as ours have lots of charm and character, but are constantly in need of some type of repair, update or remodel.
Deb started a group called These Old Houses not only for people who live in older homes but also members who have questions and/or provide answers and suggestions about repairs and remodels. There are many people in the Gardeners group doing creative projects around the yard, and we hope you will join the new These Old Houses group and apply some of that creativity to the house as well.
My current rental is 100 years but the owner took it down to the studs and remodeled it completely. I would love to own an older home someday They seem to have been built better. I've even lived in a house that was ordered through a Sears catalog. That house had the tiniest bedrooms.
I believe my home is a Sears home. I have some interesting information about Sears homes, which I plan to share with the These Old Houses group.
Yes. Lovely but a pain in the ass. A family member lives in a building dating from the 18th century and there is always something that needs doing. The latest thing.. A small leak that lets the rain in.
Yes, that is part of the "charm."
Anyone contemplating buying an old house should watch the movie "The Money Pit" at least three times the night before going to the bank to sign the mortgage papers. In fact, now that you mentioned it, I believe I will propose naming The Money Pit as the official movie of the "These Old Houses" group
100 years? Just a baby compared to mine in Suffolk, England. Probably 16C.
I think old houses are amazing. However, I chose not to live in one. It does sound like a fun group.
