Calla lilies blooming. Two "Jap" beetles found on blooms and dealt with in "finger to carapace" combat.
Question for the Gardeners:
Do Calla lilies maintain their bloom coloration if the seeds are planted or do the new lilies revert to white blooms?
Has anyone had success growing lilies from seeds?

Beautiful! I love Calla lilies. I've only grown the white ones since that's the hardiest color, and my soil is clay and rock. Perhaps you can find out what they need in the soil to maintain other colors, and add it in?

Excellent idea.
Google time!

I had given that some thought but spread out over the three acres was soil of every type. From the blackest, most wonderful soil in the low spots, to the rockiest, red clay you can find. It wasn't worth the effort to me.

Almost without exception the color of the blooms on any of my flowers would change with time. A stunning robins egg blue clematis turned a dark purple over a four year time. As did a white one and an orange one. The exception was flowering bushes and some bulbs. From the research I did it seemed to be the ph balance of the soil that was behind it. On the plus side when I was growing cannabis amending the soil with compost improved everything about the plants. From the quality to the quantity. That was true regardless of the quality of seed that I used. The addition of compost also had the added benefit of protecting the plants from pests.
I can't speak to growing callies from seed. It's something I never tried.

Those lillies are beautiful, although I still connect them with funerals. I have a piece lilly ( indoor plants) blooming right now.

That's interesting! Maybe it's regional: most of the women in my family (in the northeast) have carried Calla Lilies in our bridal bouquets.
