Mowed and edged the front lawn today, early in the morning...my weather station was indicating storms on the way. An hour after I finished a popup thunderstorm delivered 1.28 inches of rain in less than an hour. I took these pics right as it stopped raining.

Well timed.
The sunflowers give a nice splash of colour. Do you eat the seeds? I planted a dozen and a half one year having used a half metre masonry drill to give their tap root a head start (the soil was that compacted and dried out). I was rewarded with a good showing. The birds got the seeds however.

I harvest the entire head, dry it out, save them for those foot of snow blizzard days to throw outside for the birds.
