Very nice. Wish they ate more.
They have plenty of company, my airborne pest control unit includes robins, English sparrows, grackles, blue jays, crows and starlings who all do their part and eat from their niche. I leave the garden a bit wild so that I have lots of leopard frogs in the undergrowth eating their diet of slugs and beetles.
@Surfpirate Sounds like a party!
@AstralSmoke It's certainly fun to watch, they all seem to pull different shifts. The Goldfinches seem most active in the mornings and the robins cover the afternoon and evening with the starlings and the grackles and crows tend to show up after a rain, forming a line that pushes through the garden like a police search line which strips everything they feel is edible.
I think they are just feeding on the seeds, no?
Too soon for them to be eating the seeds, they aren't ripe yet, the flowers started opening up last week.
Can I borrow them for my squash bugs?
Just spray your squash bugs with a bit of soapy water in a spray bottle and repeat daily for at least 3 days..
@Surfpirate Really? I've tried Neem oil and lime powder … Neither helped. Any particular kind of soap? Dishwashing liquid? These sucker breed like rabbits!
@SukiSue Dawn seems to work the best but for what reason I have no explanation. Diatomic Earth can also be sprinkled on the plants, where they like to gather as I have had some success with that but it tends to wash away.
@Surfpirate Well, we'll have no problem with rain. None in 8 days and no relief in sight.
@SukiSue I can appreciate how you feel, we got a little rain two days ago for an hour, the first rain in more than 2 weeks. 40% chance of a shower on Saturday but otherwise Nada.
