I don’t know if I will have much of a pre-Xmas garden this year. I am going to go visiting friends the beginning of September, when I should be planting, so I can’t decide whether to plant when I return or not. I can’t plant early, because even if it is not too hot, there is no one dependable to water and care for it. I went to Holland for the Xmas season in 2016 and came home to a mostly dead garden, even though someone had promised to care for it. We have two planting seasons here, so I can plant the end of January and harvest before summer. But I will miss my “winter” beets, carrots and tomatoes if I don’t plant in September. What to do, what to do.

Here in Alberta Canada we only have one garden so I say let your garden rest.

I would think you’d be safe planting any root veggies, ie beets, radishes, onions, carrots. Good luck.

Check the almanac and weather forecasts , go with what looks best under the circumstances , then forget all about it and enjoy your vacation ! Women do no live by bread alone .
