I'm curious how many houseplants do you have in your home? I used to have 22 when I owned a home, now I only have one.
I lost count a couple years ago.
I started out with houseplants, then to orchids.
I discovered our local grocery store was throwing out orchids out of bloom-nothing else wrong with them.
Their "unmarketability" was my boon. I have Vanda that I paid no more than $5.00 for!
My condo filled up quickly.
Unfortunately most are NOIDS and cannot be shown or pedigreed
Currently 48. Will have to bring in more as the nights get colder.
Here are a few that I recently installed in a spot that requires a ladder to access:
This reminds me that I haven't decided on what plant to put on the fridge.
@Sheannutt Thank you. You should see my succulents. Here are some of them:
@Sheannutt I'm a fan of minimalism and usually only buy things I need but when it comes to plants my willpower is weak weak WEAK.
@Sheannutt Nice. I've moved a lot and, unfortunately, don't have a plant that's been with me anywhere that long.
6 in my apartment right now, but I used to have more before cats. The little jerks find them quite tasty. The 2 cats I have now are what you might call "floor cats," they really don't jump up on anything, so I'm at least able to keep plants in the window sill again.
"Floor cats!" What a great feature! Do these cats cost extra? I am used to cats that can even find their way up on the refrigerator. The poor pothos plant I had up there never had a chance!
I make sure that the cat always has a pot of live grass available. That keeps him from snacking on the houseplants.
I realize that your little jerks may not be as easily distracted.
I have zero. 3 dozen rose bushes in the garden, 3 hydrangeas, a couple loropetalums, one mandevilla vine, as well as plans for some Clematis and Lantana and herbs in the spring. Plants indoors seem just terribly anti-climactic. The light is disappointing, and seasonal changes are next to non-existent. Just not as interesting to me. I do plan to set up a proper propagation shelf, with lamp and north-facing window and all. But those aren't houseplants.
Oh wait! I do have a striped spider plant, technically a houseplant, but mine in growing outdoors, on the edge of my carport.
Zero. Our two cats are "gardners".
In the winter, I set up grow lights over the bathtub in one of our bathrooms and start plants in there for the spring planting.
I used to have many, many, many. Then I started moving to apartments, and apartments didn't have good natural light. Then I move to house that doesn't have good natural light. And then I got KITTENS! Now I have maybe 7. Mostly where cats can't get them and also where I forget to water regularly.
@Sheannutt I have a sansevaria that has moved with me many times, I've taken many babies off of it. It has leaves that are over 48 inches tall. Luckily they thrive on neglect.
@HippieChick58 We demand a photo!
@misternatureboy @sheannutt I give you the sansevaria from my sewing room. The orange thing is a yardstick.
@HippieChick58 Crazy. That plant is iconic, has a special place in your heart, and deserves more recognition. There should be a rule in your family such as: "You need to be at least as tall as grandma's Sansevieria to start having opinions."
Too generous? Perhaps "You need to be at least as tall as grandma's Sansevieria to start having sleepovers" is more your style.
@misternatureboy LOL!! I will have to think about that. Grammy is supposed to be indulgent, so you have to be as tall as the Sansevaria to drive probably won't go well with their parents I will have to think about it. Right now the babies are 5 months and 20 months. We've got a ways to go.
Five in my house right now, but more when the cold weather sets in.
