Wonder how they would prepare some.

It varies by plant and purpose. Teas were very common. Mint tea was used to ease digestive distress. Rose hip tea is high in Vitamin C, so good for colds. Yellow dock root is dried and coarsely chopped to make a liver tonic tea. Cattails have edible parts, and the fluff was used to add insulation to bedding and clothes. No idea about its medicinal qualities. Yarrow leaves can be crushed and placed on skin abrasions to soothe and fight germs - it even smells like Bactine!
