I know planting season is over but here is something you might want to try next year.

I love the idea of plants helping each other!

Time for planting a fall garden which is easier to take care of than spring summer garden here in NC . I did try that this year but early summer was way too wet and august too dry and the corn ear worms got what did survive and butter nut squash were very small .

i am wondering if there where other plants in that mix? Plants that would prevent pests and other critters, like raccoons in raiding the garden... Jimson weed... As an example , That is stinky and poisonous.

Fortunately native Americans did not have to concern themselves with invasive insects, depleted soils and other matters, just had to contend with white folks (that not so fortunately).

Remind me in the spring. I have such a small garden but who knows, maybe I will expand it.

Try a square foot garden plan, vertical in nature. I always plant too many things, but it works. Recommended reading: "Square Foot Gardening" by Mel Bartholomew, 1981.

Seems brilliant! Definitely worth trying!
