Building a Reflecting Pond on a Budget.
My wife wanted me to incorporate a reflecting pond into the landscaping for the front yard but if you have looked at pond materials you know how expensive they are, even a small pond can run you over a thousand dollars with pond liners, pumps, fountains, etc.
I built this 16' x 8' pond which is 18" deep for about $350 using an extreme duty tarp 20' x 16' and a utility pump from Harbor Freight, the landscaping blocks I picked up at an auction for $50 and the cap stones were on sale at Loews for $2/ea. I expect to get 5 years out of the tarp pond liner before I have to put in a new one.
Very modern house !
Thanks, I had planned on building a French provincial style farmhouse with a huge eat in kitchen but I asked my wife what she wanted and she said she wanted something like this which was similar to a house we stayed at in Santiago, Chile. So I designed and built this instead, still has a huge eat in kitchen but it is all stainless steel instead of the one I had planned, it works.
I checked my numbers and it came in at $269 plus tax so just under $300.
Extreme duty tarp - $59
Utility Pump - $39
36 pavers x $2 - $72
24 retaining blocks - $50
Light globes - $44
Everything at clearance or auction prices for a total of $269 plus my sweat.
Some of the best inexpensive pumps are auto water pumps. They are durable and relatively powerful for the cost and run on 12 volts. IDK if they are submersible, which is handy but usually not essential.
Auto pumps meaning a car pump?
@Zoohome Yes mam. Ones used to circulate water and antifreeze through the engine and radiator. Once they were mechanical, but now many are electric. I bought one, I think for a Saturn, that cost about $25 via ebay. I use a small 12 V solar panel to run it without a battery, and it is easily 2x as powerful as pond pumps that cost more.
