These are from the Halifax public gardens early in September. Dahlias are considered to me as high maintenance. I only have a few but love the flower and variety of the dahlia.

Beautiful! We are too tropical for healthy dahlias here. (sigh)
@MikeInBatonRouge
That's too bad they are beautiful. With so many varieties it's hard to pick which ones to have in your garden. I end up with the ones that like it my garden. I've had about 25 different ones and now down to only 5.
Nice!

I'm happy to share and proud of the effort put into the dahlias at the Halifax public gardens.
Had them in the garden now for three years and not a flower to be seen, i grow weary of their finickiness.
@HeathenFarmer
I use a lot of peat moss when planting my dahlias in the spring. Some end up with only one or two blooms but others flower profusely. You can cut stalks to a maximum of 5 or even less to try forcing blooms.
@flower_nut I have to do something or give up, thanks for the tip.
@HeathenFarmer
I find no rhyme or reason to how they perform year after year. I know peat moss helps and limiting the number of stalks will help the remaining stalks do better. Good luck I've been trying for years to figure out what they like best and they keep changing their minds. Preparing them for storage is something else to consider. I cut the stalks down and leave the dahlias in the ground for a week before digging them up.
