What a surprise today. I went out to feed the front worm farm and noticed three shoots strongly growing. So pulling on them to remove their tenacity I discovered that they are growing out of mango pits thrown in with the veggie waste about a month ago. I very much doubt that they will survive our winter but as you can see I have potted them and will see what happens.
I'm excited.

We're in the middle of summer. Your turn will come. Where I am has just had its second hottest January ever recorded and it was 5Β°C above average at 35Β°C.
No wonder those mango seeds germinated in the humidity of the worm box.

@FrayedBear to every season there is a turn, as the song goes

That has happened to me with avocados and peaches, often with potatoes, but never with mangos. Your worm compost must have been just perfect for them.

No I suspect a combination of temperature and humidity within the box. I have just read that we have just had the second hottest January on record with an average of 35.1Β°C about 5Β° higher than average.

I've been rescuing worms for three days now. We've had so much rain they are coming to the concrete walk to keep from drowning. I've been picking them up and trying to move them to higher ground. I'm afraid I may have given a couple of them heart attacks because the only way to higher ground was to throw them to it 😟

No such luck here though we did have bit of rain the other day... Thanks for the reminder, I took photos but haven't posted them yet.

Interesting. Sometimes things do grow from worm bins.
I live in a temperate climate area. Years ago we saw a tree growing from behind a fence close to another building. The tree was about 8 feet tall and we discovered it was an Avocado tree. Someone had tossed a pit over the fence. The neighbor cut it down but then next year there it was again.

We have had a hot month so with the humidity in the closed box it has obviously been ideal for germination. An avocado may fare better - hmm I might try it.

I'm thinking of trying it. Thanks for the suggestion.
