Please people plant milk thistles in your gardens along most sides of your house to feed this endangered species of MONARCHS
Wow...and I have to respect the patience of not moving the Chrysalis attached to the hose! Kudos!
When I saw the ones attached to the hose, I went around to the front and got that hose. I didn't want to chance hurting them. It's been wonderful watching them emerge from their cocoons.
We should be seeing them here in a few weeks.
I've got 12 more cocoons that are getting close and have the cattapillers all over the milk weed plants, so there will be more.
@Redheadedgammy Your milkweek looks good. I have a few fritillaries floating around right now, but it is still too chilly for most of the other butterflies. My passion vine is sprouting out, so the food source is getting ready.
@glennlab They love those passion flowers. I had one last year but it didn't make it over the winter. I planted it late in the fall so it probably didn't get a good root system going. Then we had two hard freezes so that's probably what killed it. I'll try again with another.
@Redheadedgammy I have both the purple and light blue I can send you some if you'd like. Both are perrinial, but the light blue is the one that fritillaries prefer for food, but they will lay eggs on both.
@glennlab I would love to have 1 of each. I will gladly pay for the postage.? Thank you. The pictures are gorgeous!
@glennlab Love those passaflora. We can't grow them here.
@itsmedammit both are Texas natives, and grow like weeds here. Last year was the first time the butterflies actually ate it enough to control it going into fall. I must have had in excess of 50,000 caterpillars based on an extrapolation of density.
@Redheadedgammy I should be able to find them as soon as it stops raining here, PM me your address.
