In glancing through the quarterly alumni magazine from CMA (They send these to elicit donations), I came across this interesting article about a, to me, unknown fellow alumni. During The Great War (WW1), all Culver alumni were expected to be in uniform and fighting the Kaiser. Culver's mission statement includes the development and training of 'citizen soldiers' but, more importantly, the development of the independent thinker and 'Citizen Leader'. To that extent, this young man, in my opinion, stepped up to both family obligations, and the needs of his country at war. I think the legacy he left is amazing. I wonder if I get a discount from their catalog???? Right:
First off this war was a disaster and because of it we had to fight a second war + it created the influenza pandemic.
There is a series of great videos (British of course) about farming during different periods of time. One is titled "Wartime Farms". It is absolutely amazing what and how this issue evolved. Here is a link to the first episode. Others can be found on you tube.
