Not really gardening focused. But close. We grew some bottle gourds last year for fun. The vines almost engulfed our generator and utilities infrastructure. Anyway, I dried some and Linda suggested bird houses might be a good use. After several attempts at securing them, i found that the "Linda supplied" fabric edges were the best material for tying them in place. Here's two I set out today in our front yard. Highly visible from our kitchen window:
Those are big holes! Can't wait to hear what kinds of birds will use them!
We'll see. Maybe Robins. I dropped down to finch sized holes for the ones I put in the back.
My concern is that the fabric strips will age rapidly. But until that happens, that looks so cool! I love watching the birds.
What fun! Last year, my wife bought me a good sized bird feeder for Christmas. We had a great time watching the different kinds of birds that came to feed - everything from tiny juncos and chickadees to blue jays, cardinals, and white wing doves. We even got to witness a bit of food chain in action as all this activity attracted a red tailed hawk or two, and some small owls. These were interesting too, but did take some of the fun out of feeding the birds.
You'll have such fun watching those bird families!
Good luck! They look large enough for owl or hawk nests!
Now THAT would be awesome.
