Amazing Kniphofia.

I volunteer for the BLM/San Juan Islands National Monument and about every 2 months I go to 5 sites and do a download of trail counters. It's an all morning exercise (the island is bigger than most realize) and on the way back I spotted a bed of these Red-Hot Pokers. Wow, and the birds seem to have left them alone.

They seem to like a coastal environment.
Very pretty!

Just curious, which island?? My grandparents used to live on Fidalgo Island, in Anacortes, to be precise.

Fidalgo is connected by bridges to the mainland. But you have to go to Anacortes to get to the San Juans. The Kniphofia is on Lopez.

Wow they are pretty in a thick planting like that!

Obviously I am not the only one here that likes them. There is a bed along with a lot of Elephant grass near the village but as I went by few were left so this was a surprise.
