Two daylilies with rather similar coloring, blooming on the same day, on different plants ... look at the difference in size! and although both use the yellow and red palette, there is the subtle hue differences and 'eye' pattern. I photographed them each in a small ink bottle of my antique bottle collection.

You might have stumbled on to what geneticists call a "di-hybrid' or "polyploid-hybrid" species.
These "freaks" have double the chromosome number.
Many "breeders" are in to selecting for larger and varied color traits.
The daylily lends itself to easy cross-breeding - like dogs did.
