Today I noticed th rowan trees in the neighborhood. Both are heavy with fruit, those orange berries. Besides being very decorative trees, they also predict the severity of the winter to come. So, it looks like we will have a very snowy winter to come. The more fruit on the tree, the heavier the snow. It is the realtionship between the critters and birds that live on the berries and how severe the winter will be.
Makes sense to me and is validated every year by empirical data, namely my onservarions.
Interesting . If the amount of fruit , predicts the weather , due to the amount gathered or eaten by the birds and other critters , I would have thought more fruit remaining on the trees , (less stored away ) , would suggest the harvesters not concerned about the bad weather coming would have left more fruit on the trees .
The rowan tree fruit to snow connection is folklore. I only observe and comment.
@Spinliesel Oh, that's the Mountain Ash here in PNW, always fun to see the many birds attracted for feeding!
