More than a curiosity for resident of west coast timber country, this is exciting! How wonderful there are folks using amazing new science to recreate what could be another behemoth redwood, so many years down the road. Much of what we had here in Pacific NorthWest is gone, despite recent good efforts in replanting and forest management, and yet more land development by the year.

Wow, very interesting. Another learning experience for me in several ways. We have here a National park the Olympic National park. It is comprised of four rainforests (I did not know there were 4). [myolympicpark.com] It is a temperate rain forest and the difference between temperate and Tropical is that in the temperate the biomass is larger and the Tropical has a larger variety of plants. One common phenomena of the rain forest is the idea of nurse logs. When a tree falls or is cut down the dampness helps another tree to grow on the falled tree. Often the fallen tree rots away and one sees a line of trees suspended on their roots. [naturesdepths.com]
