OK folks, this is where I'm at. On the trunk I tried the chainsaw, the handsaw, and the axe....Nope.
Ideas? Besides driving my car into it.

Is it made of concrete? Iron?

OK, so how about this idea… Have your son announce to his friends at school that there is a lumberjack contest being held this summer, but to enter you must first have a tryout. Make sure you have a good sharp axe and hold the tryouts at the petrified cherry tree in your yard. Make sure they each sign a waiver absolving you of any responsibility for severed limbs and/or appendages. Make up the rules as you go along until the tree is totally chopped down.

Check if there's an artisan wood miller in your area. Cherry is a prime hardwood. They'd probably take it away for free.

It could be that the chain needs to be sharpened. A reputable small engine repair shop can tell you if you need a new chain or if the one you have can be sharpened.

My thought exactly. The blades of the various tools must be dull, because there is no way that works beats steel. Everybody knows it's steel cuts wood, wood soaks up water, and water rusts steel. The hand gestures are... complicated

@AmiSue The car idea is pretty good. I recommend using someone else's vehicle.

Just leave it like that and let some critters enjoy it. Cherry is a pretty dense wood. It'll probably stay there for several years. Grow a flowering vine over it if you don't want to look at it.

Set it on fire lol

Cut it down in little pieces starting at the top. Don't get hurt!!

@AmiSue What happens when you try to cut it with the chainsaw? If the chainsaw is working properly it ought to cut into the tree at least the length or width of the bar.

@AmiSue .. Sounds like.
MikeEC has good advice.
Then farmboy2017.

@AmiSue Did you remember to put chain saw oil on the chain before you started ?

I'd use a Sawzall (reciprocating saw) with a really long blade, or an ugly blade, a chainsaw (maybe you need a new blade?), and an ax.

...and maybe a car too, then if that fails, hire a pro. Sorry, I'm no help, it's a lot of work.
