Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.To be honest, that was partly why I bowed out the first time - I knew that, for me, without psychological back up, trying to sort just the physical would not even begin to fix me. And I couldn't afford it, nor did I have a good support system.
In the UK, counseling was available at no cost, albeit having to wait 2+ yrs to actually get an initial appt. Additionally, they required a year of losing weight to prove you would stay on their required plan. I figured, Hell, if I could stay on a plan for a year, I wouldn't need the surgery!!!
Anyway, fast forward 20 months, my life's circumstances have DRAMATICALLY changed, and I am on Keto. Not that I couldn't still benefit greatly from counseling, but so much has already changed for the better (with lots of hard self-work, not just the weight)
Are you able to address the issues you would like? Have you a support system? I hope so. So many changes occur as we drop the weight, I know. So much comes up. And it is often so overwhelming, too.
Is it okay if I send a virtual hug? I understand a lot of it.

I run a support group for bariatric and pre-bariatrics on Facebook called Bariatric Group Therapy. My wife had the surgery at the same time so we support each other. We have in person groups we can attend but I cannot easily identify with the people that go because men are only a very small percentage of the patients that get the surgery and most of the people are on a very different intellectual level than I am. I also see a psychologist.

I was actually scheduled for it decades ago and changed my mind (fear). Then, less than 2 yrs ago, I decided again to go for it. Ended up on Keto, and here I am now, no surgery, but nearly 200 lbs down.
How has the surgery affected your day-to-day life?

It affects everything. Huge restriction on capacity. Requires a lot of planning to go eat anywhere to determine suitability of things on menus. A lot of psychological issues.
