If one person, or a single relationship, exposes pre-existing fault lines, the foundation already is weak and ready to fracture.
I know the meme is humorous, but too many people believe in a more serious version of this idea.

Compared to that other American divorcee, Wallis Simpson, she has hardly even ruffled their feathers.
@Moravian Simpson merely exploited a huge weakness that was already there: That Prince of Wales was a notorious screw-up who was getting in and out of trouble for most of his life. The monarchy actually owes her, because he would have been an awful king had he actually reigned for longer.
