I never understood that song.
For What It's worth" was a lament by the youth of the 60's (yes...I was a teen then...took a bus to the March on D.C.; did lots of that protest thing)....
They were lamenting about "the man" or "the man with the gun" or social pressures, ("singing songs and carrying signs' In general.
My favorite line? "Paranoia strikes deep. Into your life it will creep. It starts when you're always afraid. Step out of line, the men comes and takes you away"
Buffalo Springfield

There's something happening here
But what it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
A-telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
And nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Are gettin' so much resistance from behind
It's time we stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down
What a field day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and a-carryin' signs
Mostly say, "Hooray for our side"
It's time we stopped
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life, it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out of line, the man comes and takes you away
We better stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down.
Why Buffalo?
For What It's Worth... Buffalo Springfield.
@Gemini-1947 Strewth, it must be famous - even I've previously heard it!
