I think direct air capture is peddled by the fossil fuel industry. Carbon capture from industrial flu gases is very practical but it is expensive from atmosphere as co2 concentration is much lower. Specificity required for such a separation is huge. I hope this company puts out some real data soon
My understanding of the second law of thermodynamics compels me to label this a scam. Comparing this thing to a tree is offensive. How much energy does it take to produce one of these things compared to the CO2 it captures? Remember Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
For sure we can't compare it to trees, Trees values are not just about Co2 but Ecosystem itself. But sadly, for now, we need a quick solution due to this critical situation. at least they claimed it's a passive, relatively low-cost, and scalable solution that is commercially viable. seems to be a good start to carbon collect.
Sounds to be an Awesome project!
