Thumbs down meant no. He was smart, but had no idea what that meant to most students. The school board made him stop doing it.

I'll bet he wasn't as oblivious as he seemed.
@glennlab I'm sure that's not what he meant. There are very intelligent people that don't know how to screw in a light bulb!
