It was about a year, and I was reluctant. But the Yenta at our synagogue (I am the Rabbi's pet heathen) buttonholed me on the last night Judith's name was to be read and said "You know? It's not good that a man should live alone."

My SO died 2 1/2 years ago, and I tried dating a year ago. Big mistake. Not only did I feel no connection to the guy, but I also realized that I wasn't ready to date anyone. Even going on three years I don't really feel like dating. It's conflicting for me; mostly though I feel nothing. Like I'm turning asexual or something.

Its been 5 years, 5 months and 20 days since the love of my life passed away. I still haven't been comfy dating. I really miss him every day and can't imagine loving someone the way that I loved Dave.

It might have been about 6 months, but the guy I hooked up with wasn't right for me, though we loved together for almost 5 years. I was in another relationship that also didn't work out. Now another one that has problems, it seems no one can compare to my late husband , sadness 😟

I've met up with a couple of guys but I wouldn't call either meeting a date.
I've had a couple more guys come on to me but there's not been a flicker of interest from me. It will be two years in December since Jock passed. I guess I'm just not ready or the right guy hasn't appeared yet

It had been a year since my husbands death when I decided to change my status on here to 'looking for dating', I changed my profile to say exactly who I was and precisely what I was looking for and I waited. I never actively looked at anyones profile, I guess I figured I had a lot of time to spare as I wasn't desperate to meet anyone and the likelihood of me meeting anyone close to what I lost in Mike was slim to none, so I wasn't too hopeful. I just sat back and waited for the right one to connect with my profile and I knew he would know how to respond to me and what to say to peak my interest into responding to them....2 weeks after opening myself up to the option of dating again, I got a beautiful introduction message from another member on here and we hit it off immediately. He is perfect and I am totally in love with this guy. We got to know each other fast, the walls were down, we both knew time is too short to fuck around and play games so we got deep fast. We are made for each other. I can't fault him and even agnostic said he was a 100% match with me, and he was. Maybe there IS something to this algorithm after all ? lol

My daughter and stepson both said to me "Mom, we want you to be happy and loved. If you meet someone 5 minutes from now, 5 days, 5 weeks go for it!"
My husband was going downhill for awhile and very sick for the last year. He was lucid and engaged, but it took all of his strength to do so. It has not been a month since he opted to refuse treatment and I agreed. He died three weeks ago. I would like to meet a kind and loving man. He would want that.I am treading lightly, but am looking for the next stage of my life.

I only waited a month before looking on dating sites. The last year of my 2nd husband's life was very difficult. I was his care-giver at home and he had Alzheimers and Parkinsons, so I felt I really needed some loving! After my first husband died I waited 7 years and that was way too long.

Parts of me returned to life around month 9. I started with some online (only) flirtations around then. By the end of year 2, I seriously dated a colleague friend. That ended disastrously, largely killing dating for me.

Don't give up hope. When you keep getting out there, life is bound to improve sooner or later. It will always worth the effort eventually.

@dare2dream I figure the type I would connect would likely be drawn to my living a good life. So, I try to do that, all while keeping my eyes open and my demeanor friendly. Thanks!

@Zster : That should do it! 🙂

When my wife died, my life was destroyed. I was no longer a happily married man but a single guy. How does one become happy and well adjusted being single? After being married so long I forgot how to do being single. I was in my twenties when I was last single. 39 years had passed since then. Could a "mature gentleman" succeed at being single? At my age, would anyone want me again?

I knew the only path forward was to "do" being single. I had to get out there, meet people and start dating - or die. Luckily, I met a woman right away and started dating within weeks. I knew it was the only way out of the horrible grieving period. I HAD to get past that stage right away because it was going to kill me.

As it turned out, she was almost completely not right for me after all. Maybe I just didn't want to be alone.

That's just how I felt after my 2nd husband died. The first love of my life died after 39 years happily married and I waited 7 years before dating and found a wonderful man. Now I'm not waiting so long to get out there, because life is short!

I dated a few times within 6 months of his death, but I was totally disappointed so I went a year without trying again. It was a little better, but I didn't find anybody for more than 2 dates where we liked each other. I'm back to being alone after 2 1/2 years of widowhood. It's ok I guess. I hang at the senior center and talk to my cats. Boo hoo

I have 2 cats and I think they are the only thing that kept me here after my husband died after 22 years of marriage from ALS, and I talk to them a lot !

Almost a year. I missed things you can't get from friendships alone. Of course, being willing to consider dating doesn't mean it is that easy to make happen.

Almost a year. I was lonely. Did not need it but wanted the company.
