The role of basic training is to turn civilians into soldiers. To become useful members of the Defense Force group. To do this, you knock the individuality out of people ie everyone is "green", no sex, race etc etc. A soldier is a soldier and you treat all the same eg same clothes, haircuts, bedding, food etc etc. It is a full on indoctrination process, basic and corp training. The group needs to operate in total unison and all are treated the same.
So I find it extremely strange any military anywhere promotes individuality like this. Join the army, doesn't matter who you fuck or worship etc, you are now green just like all of your peers. That's the way it is meant to be and always has been.
NB I know from experience that Aboriginal Australian's love the department of defense, living/ working with communities. Why? Because they were the first to treat Aboriginals equally regarding payment and treatment because everyone is green in the Army. They were also the first to protect sacred sites by including them in training areas and actually protecting them eg they are no go zones in training areas. Aboriginal Australia has not forgotten this and have the upmost respect for the Dept of Defense. It is all anyone wants, to be treated equally as your peers are treated. This goes back to the Boer war, a long history.

And at the same time take away the common human right not to Kill. Unfortunately, it is "Kill or be killed " for soldiers and I cannot see the end of our need for them. We can get rid of all commands outside the army if laws consider all human frailty.

The US constitution got it right. maintain state militias who may group together in times of war.
There was never meant to be a standing army according to that document.............for good reason. Because corrupt government will abuse that power.
