Police violence is directed against working people and youth of all racial and ethnic backgrounds
{The deliberate silence of the national media and the Democratic Party on the killing of white workers and youth implies that these killings are legitimate, and there is no reason anyone should take notice. In presenting police violence as a racial issue, of whites against blacks, the media aims to divide the working class and cover up the socioeconomic background of those who are being killed and the social processes that led to their deaths.}
Just read the comments of any social media to see the division, and in some cases justification of being tried , convicted, and the death sentence on the street, or in a home, for a minor crime or no crime. Someone having a mental issue episode, wellness checks, the growing purposefully false reported crime, raids created on bad or invalid information, often old reverences within past addresses and or relationships. Whites who I often see on social media making ludicrous justifications of a black killing by police are diminishing the relevance of their own racial killings by law enforcement. Ignorant of how important it is for us to address this as a societal whole.
{However, a previous analysis of police violence data by the World Socialist Web Site found that when the economic and social demographics of the cities and counties where people are killed by police are taken into account, the glaring racial disparities that are the focus of the media and the Democrats largely disappear.}
{Overwhelmingly, it is workers and young people—of every skin color, gender, sexuality and national origin—who are the victims of the police. This phenomenon is an outgrowth of the social and economic conditions in the United States.}
Biden uses “systemic racism” narrative to obscure class character of police violence
In response to the guilty verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis, Minnesota police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd, the Biden administration and the media have pushed the narrative that police violence is the product of “systemic racism” and “white supremacy.”
Remember the Clinton --- Biden crime bill?
The alternative to a racial analysis of American society is a class analysis. By blaming “systemic racism” and “white supremacy,” the reality of capitalism and class oppression disappears. The issue of social inequality is no longer about the rich against the poor, but white against black.
{Biden’s remarks also whitewash the crime committed by Chauvin in order to cover for the police, by transforming it into a crime of the nation, resting in its “very soul.” The nation, however, did not kneel on Floyd’s neck; it was Chauvin who killed him. And he had accomplices. The three other police officers who helped him kill Floyd, were white, African American, and Asian American. All were acting, not in accordance with the color of their skin but in their capacity as the uniformed and armed defenders of the state and private property.}
{No less ruthless than the Republicans, the Democrats mobilize the National Guard to patrol the streets and back up police crackdowns while deploying racial politics in order to divide workers against each other. They seek to obscure the class character of the opposition to police violence and undermine a class movement against police violence. To this end, tens of millions of dollars have been poured into the Black Lives Matter movement and associated organizations to promote the idea that policing is an issue of whites against blacks.}
I never get pulled over with pale-skinned people in my car, happens ALL the time with those with darker skin as passengers.
What's the ratio between police searching a white persons car to a black persons car?
@William_Mary Interesting question that cannot be definitely answered because most police departments do not record the race of the person stopped. This is intentional.
@Bobbyzen I can assure you from my own experiences of being on the roadways more than most citizens that I can answer this question fairly well. Having spent 2 1/2 years as an OTR truck driver now living and working in NE Ohio constantly between 3 of Ohio's largest cities, I rarely see police searching through a white persons car. The ratio is easily 90+% with a good deal of generosity going to African Americans.
Yes. The focus on racist policing obfuscates classist policing. The problem is an inability to entertain complex, critical thinking. It’s not either/or. It’s both racism and classicism.
Organized policing developed on two tracks: Slave Patrols in the South were dispatched to capture or kill runaway slaves. Police in the North were hired to protect property and wealth by brutally suppressing workers rising up against starvation wages and intolerable working conditions.
Today. the same system that results in the shooting of black people enforces laws against people in poverty, with mental health and substance abuse issues, et. al.
This goes all the way back to Nixon and the war on drugs. On tape Haldeman telling Nixon his enemies are the blacks and hippies (mostly white kids).
It work then it continues to work today.
For all the years since we really have not changed. Can it really be just human nature?
It is a puzzle that some see the issue yet nothing really changes.
