The Illusion of Ocasio-Cortez: New Faces Won’t Mend a Cancerous Political System
The warning signs were coming out with her first national interview on MSM. Was she already warned by the establishment? Or was Joe Crowley sacrificed in an attempt to draw back lost voters?
There are 435 representatives in congress, one more will not make a huge difference. However, that she beat Joe Crowley who had 3x campaign funds supplied by a PAC does make a difference. It shows progressives are voting in larger numbers and that some people who have been voting Republican are abandoning that party.
True, Ocasio-Cortez cannot change the Dems, but they are aware and concerned. Moreover, she isn't alone. There are not nearly enough for progressives to control the party at this time. The conservatives lost control under FDR in the 1930s; it took them 80 years to regain control to this level. The election in November isn't enough to regain control, but it is possible.
From the article and from her 2 opportunities of interviews on MSM, it's beginning to look like she is the one changing. She's been given the chance to stand her ground and she has wavered.
@William_Mary She needs the support of other progressives. The more the better. It's rare that a lone progressive, like Sanders, will shine and not be corrupted some.
@EdEarl I'll agree there, but my argument is that it can't be done in that party. Local, state, and national, you just can't fight that! Ask the tea party how that works. Good idea they had. They didn't have a clue what they were really talking about on the tax issue for one thing. Then 2 months in it was bought out by the Koch bothers. The republican party swallowed it whole without chewing like a starving dog. Ask Sanders how that feels! And there's signs they already have her in their mouths and ready to swallow her. She's been on 2 MSM shows now for interviews and took a step back from her rhetoric. Seemingly scared to speak her mind when she needs to keep fighting. She can't wait and win at the same time. Either go at them or the republican is going to win. And I'm betting, the democrats at this point would be fine with a republican over a real progressive. She's not acting like a real progressive anymore!
@William_Mary It's what we have to work with ATM. If they ran as independents or with another party, I'd still vote for the best progressive running.
