Teamsters local meeting erupts in anger as union official calls UPS workers’ poverty wages “subjective”

[wsws.org]

(Jonah agreed: “UPS is the largest contract for Teamsters so whatever we agree on they’ll use that against other members in other industries, even places like McDonalds. As soon as we submit to something like that, that isn’t a fair contract, then everyone else is going to follow suit... This is a real big fight right here, and we need to lead by example.&rdquo😉

They've been doing this for decades and getting away with it. I was one of their first victims in the 80s. Clinton put it on steroids with NAFTA. Unions and good paying jobs have been nothing but gutter trash for corporations ever since.

I come from a union family. I do not get the vitriol against unions. If you have a 40 hour work week thank a labor union!

GreatNani Level 8 Aug 21, 2018

Unions across the nation are beginning to work against their own members in collaboration with companies. Here we have a low tier employee base of workers, under hours under paid. Essentially creating another Wal Mart employee base. Within a multi billion dollar company!?! They couldn't manage personal without over hiring providing full time jobs with good pay? I will argue it's the start of the same agenda we had here in Warren Ohio at the Ford plant. [wsws.org]

(The proposed agreement creates a new, lower-paid tier of “hybrid” driver and warehouse workers, aimed at cutting labor costs and extending part-time conditions to delivery. It maintains poverty wages for part-time warehouse workers, who make up the majority of the company’s 250,000 workers.)

The union is setting the background of eat your own rather than a bases of membership as a whole using threats.

In the Warren case>In fact, the UAW supports the decision by GM to axe hundreds of jobs and bring in low-wage replacement workers, insisting that workers bear whatever sacrifices are necessary to make GM and other US automakers “competitive,” i.e., profitable.> When is the time for the multi millionaires for these companies to take a sacrifice? Next it will be cuts in pay and slashing of pensions.

In another Warren issue, there are corruption charges going forward.

[wsws.org]

Although Jewell has not yet been indicted, his name has repeatedly surfaced in the corruption scandal, which involved Fiat Chrysler executives paying more than $1.5 million in illegal money and gifts to senior UAW officials to obtain sweetheart deals stripping autoworkers of their wages and rights.

On Tuesday, attorneys for Monica Morgan, the widow of late UAW Vice President General Holiefield—the central figure in the illegal conspiracy—will file a guilty plea agreement at a US District Court in Detroit. Her statement is expected to lead to further indictments, which might include one for Jewell.

The UPS workers are not having it to turn on each other knowing what's coming down the line. If you read these 3 articles in full I think you might see the relationship they bare to each other. Unions are not what they use to be Nani. Our society is ripe with corruption today and everyone wants a piece of the pie. More and more people are getting away with it and feel they will when the opportunity comes their way. The more we stand silent the more they take from us. And we have way to many people unaware and standing silent.

@William_Mary Well that make me sad! My grandfather was a union man and he knew the value of the work they did. This is just another shitty thing in America. Totally depressing. Actually, the teachers unions can be the same way. Just makes you sad to think we are heading down the toilet as a nation.
