This Time the Big Obstacle for Bernie Isn’t DNC Rigging
(But let’s be clear. The huge obstacle ahead is not the DNC — it’s the mass media. The corporate-owned and corporate-advertiser-funded media of this country are the biggest barriers between Bernie Sanders and the Oval Office.)
He states this as though the media didn't play a large part in under minding Sanders in 2016. I have news for Solomon. If it wasn't for us grass roots supporters on social media who spent a year on social media advocating for Sanders, Sanders would still be pretty much as little heard of.
The DNC voted to strip superdelegates of their powers. Will it matter for 2020?
(Voters, meanwhile, may think differently about which candidates could actually win the nomination. In 2016 Clinton already had several hundred superdelegates backing her before the first primary voter cast a ballot. Opponents of the old system argued that could affect voter behavior: Since the media reports on candidates’ delegate totals, including those of superdelegates, voters could have overestimated a candidate’s popularity. Political scientist Larry Bartels’s classic study of presidential primary voting behavior suggests that voters do consider a candidate’s likelihood of winning the nomination — which means that superdelegate support could theoretically affect primary voting.)
It didn't quite work that way in 2016 though. It was well known Sanders had a better percentage of winning against Trump. And both the super delegates and the voters ignored that, then lost.
(Meanwhile, the DNC hopes that this relatively minor change will help restore the confidence of voters who thought the 2016 primaries were unfair.)
Not a chance in hell. That primary cycle was shady from Iowa to California. And the delegates can be pressured towards supporting anyone they want also. Fudge some numbers here, fudge some number there, and force the super delegates in again. And there's still a clause in the proceedings that still allow the DNC to chose their candidate.
