The War on Loneliness, Brought to You by Big Brother

[ghionjournal.com]

Numbing one sect of society at a time with pills. Rather than providing programs for people to engage in with each other suffering from the same conditions, give them pills. Which often leads to substance abuse, or worse, periodic none use which confound the condition. I've had experience with each of these issues with domestic partners who are brilliant at hiding their conditions until you have spent enough time with them to realize something isn't right.

So what glue do we use to create a new - effective! - social structure to battle loneliness?

Donna_I Level 8 Sep 1, 2019

I personally argue that most social anxieties are due to societies inability to recognize a meaningful unification of purpose for the better of the entire collective. As I have pointed out in the PINNED post here in the group, as a collective, the entire westernized world has been enduring a systematic program of propaganda and engineering.

Unfortunately that part of the post went to the bottom which few people make it to being I seem to have ran out of space on when I opened the group. My apologies! I've been meaning to edit that opening post but never seem to find the time to put into it properly. I actually ended up cutting a lot out after I realized I ran out of space on it. Anyways.

The video that got lost in that post speaks on how we have been engineered as a society to be expected to manage our lives a certain way.

Propaganda & Engineering Consent for Empire with Mark Crispin Miller

With thousands of advertisements seen by Americans everyday, and a corporate media that reinforces the needs of Empire, propaganda in the U.S. is more pervasive and effective than ever before.

The manipulation of public opinion through suggestion can be traced back to the father of modern propaganda, Edward Bernays, who discovered that preying on the subconscious mind was the best way to sell products people don't need, and wars people don't want.

To get a deeper understanding of how propaganda functions in today's society, Abby Martin interviews Dr. Mark Crispin Miller, professor of Media Studies at New York University.

While I understand we have a problem with chemical imbalances with some people, medicine can only do so much. Then add the stigma society puts on people, especially people who have no one or to few family to confide in, we confound the issues for them. Our health care system isn't one to actually provide a meaningful resource in many cases to help either. It's not profitable to actually find a group for these people to help in a meaningful manor, it's profitable though to keep them in a cycle of a psychiatrist and medicines.

This system of propaganda goes well beyond just politics. If also effects us in many aspects of life. As Miller explains a number of aspects of how propaganda was released on the public, one must also vision what the mentality goes through as we weigh the perception management being thrown at us. He at one point refers to it as shifting the weather. Then he goes into how propaganda means more than what many people see it as.

I don't make the claim that we live in a delusional reality that has been created for us without purpose. Most times I'm in a political state of mind when I make the claim here, but I have also occasionally suggested that it goes well beyond just politics. As I refer to in the pinned post-----" This is something that has been going on since as early as the 60's. Some would argue since WWI actually." Which is why I posted this video under the initial post i ran out of room on.

The commercial aspect in the beginning I think might lead you towards what I'm attempting to explain. As they go into the political aspect it gets deeper. But I think also is relative to anxieties that confound our concerns in everyday life.

@William_Mary so the idea that there is an over arching propaganda machine to encourage us to behave/consume in a certain manner doesn't surprise me. All one has to do is look at what is on offer in the media today. Any progamming (clever) beyond the rehashing of standard boring tropes(imo) has been siphoned off onto a separate paid services. Another touch stone of life - discussing the latest episode of Star Trek (hey! it was the first thing I could think of... lol!) or Seinfeld around the water cooler - fracturing culture into ever smaller sections with cable, netflix, hulu, prime,.. etc. ad nauseam. 🤢 All to carve people into smaller, more easily tracked and pickpocketed niche markets.
(Their was a point in the discussion where they claimed many available examples and failed to name any... frustrating. )
The shift into the military industrial complex that has had a large influence on our country since the advent of a standing army. I don't think the founder's envisioned needing one therefore the second and third ammendments. The third amendment appears to be thoughly broken in spirit at least - as through our tax dollars we are required to "house soldiers" on a continuous basis to protect ourselves from the omipresent them. blah.
So back to the helping create an integrated functional society. Without religion, music, or entertainment - although one could make an arguement that the Harry Potter book series could be an interesting example of a society rising Although it has issues as well. How do we encourage inclusion and avoid the pitfalls of the past? And of course get the people who need help the resources required. I feel it is an insurmountable task.

Right. I was disappointed myself they didn't even mention the mental effects it could have on society. That should have been a given! But as you question a means, we again find ourselves as we do in politics, searching for a way to awaken the masses from a slumber of a delusional reality. As we have very few politicians with a genuine want to better society, we seem to have few in the medical field providing better solutions for our health care in all aspects. The Matrix is indeed a bitch.

@William_Mary found myself chuckling a bit tonight after catching two odd situations.

  1. I had gone to the grocery and noticed a rather large (to me anyway) whole jackfruit for sale next to the other fruit. I live in a college town so we have a large portion of international students. Later during a commercial for a credit card there was a jackfruit on the conveyerbelt. Just thought it was odd placement.
  2. Watching a movie that showed a pair of gentlemen drinking glasses of amber liquid. Then showed a commercial for a brand of whisky. Then I am like that sounds good - so had a finger or two whisky! 😊 not the same brand but stuck me as odd when I sat down to finish the movie.
Or maybe not... The Matrix is an odd place to live.

The question is whether lonliness is the threat or indicative of the threat. The attempt to mitigate emotions that can lead someone to suicidal or other destructive acts is reasonable. It takes time to decifer where lie the thinking errors and it takes compassion..Compassion is not an item that can be sold and so it is sort of counter capitalism. When we get over our fear of socialism, we can do more to heal ourselves, each other.
