My husband and I were invited to a friend's birthday party, which was last night. We've got one other friend who's vegan who also attended. Everyone brought a dish to share, and to my great surprise, there were already 7 vegan dishes! I was really touched to realize that our group of friends wanted to make food that we 3 could eat.
A friend and I went vegan together recently. He is experiencing "fog" and finally broke down and ate beef. He felt better immediately. Does anyone know of this syndrome? Is there a way to supplement the diet to reduce transition issues?
It can take time to adjust, and he's probably eating food that's less processed than he was before, so it might be more than just not eating meat/dairy. If he feels like he needs to eat a small amount of meat once in a while till he's adjusted, that might make him more likely to stick with a vegan diet. Hopefully it won't take him too long to get there.
@SilviaPark Thanks, Silvia.
I agree with Silvia. I have been vegan (not just in terms of diet) for 9 years. I'm still going through changes in my physicality and body chemistry. Some people (I know it's not everyone) go through a detox and adjustment period when they go vegan (plant-based diet). It's also common for people going vegan to not be taking in enough calories so they need to eat more of the appropriate foods. It does take time to learn everything about the vegan lifestyle. Even I am still learning. It's always best to consult a doctor and get bloodwork done to determine what could be low or missing before taking supplements. That said, I do take a complete supplement powder in a fruit smoothie several times a week (used to be everyday but I found that I don't really need it once I learned how to get all the nutrients I need from my food). It's mostly because I'm so busy and I work everyday that sometimes I don't eat right.
@poco If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask me. If I don't know the answer, I can find out since I'm pretty well-connected to other vegans. And let me say congrats on taking the journey. Since going vegan I've come to love cooking and baking, and experimenting with new ingredients.
We learned quickly that when there is a large gathering and vegetarian food is prepared it is often gone before the vegetarians can get to it. We would have to announce that true vegetarians should get in line first.
That's wonderful! You have some good friends what dishes did they bring?
One friend brought a black bean and corn salsa that was amazing, and made one with cheese, the other without. There was a pasta salad, a chopped cabbage and greens with dressing on the side, a salad of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers, can't recall the others of the top of my head lol. We brought a really good cauliflower dish, got the recipe from the Happy Herbivore cookbook.
@SilviaPark that's great.. I love pasta salads ..
