I'm sensitive to MSG and glutamic acid. If I eat too much of it I become hungry all the time, get brain fog, feel fatigued and physically weak and I gain weight. So I try to avoid it.
Yesterday I bought some vegan mayonnaise for the first time to see what it's like. I was really pleased. I thought I'd discovered a hidden gem.
However... I've just discovered it contains concealed MSG!
I feel angry with our governments who assist food manufacturers in their efforts to lie to us and deceive us. Now I know why I've been thinking about Vegenaise all day.
I also am sensitive to MSG, I’ve been using Helmans vegan mayonnaise, I’ve noticed no problems but I’ll check the label. I do lots of my shopping at an Asian market and you gotta read everything, hope I didn’t assume too much on the mayo, perhaps it takes more than what I use to trigger me? Thanks
I believe you are ok with Helmans.
Ramped up levels of glutamic acid are usually hidden behind terms like 'Natural flavourings'.
It's so sneaky, but governments have helped them to do this. Other examples are 'yeast extract', 'brown rice syrup' or 'soy protein'. The list goes on.
You are correct about amounts. Everyone is different. Most people can tolerate MSG and glutamic acid. You'll know if you've gone over your limit if you have any symptoms like headaches or increased hunger. But it seems like you're OK.
From what I've read, it's all to do with the blood brain barrier. Glutamic acid is natural but MSG is man made, but both cause problems for sensitive individuals.
It's a controversial subject because the Japanese use loads of MSG but they live to a ripe old age.
