I remember them. They were banned for pretty much that exact reason--you can't see a thing while wearing them and some kid probably wandered out in front of a car. For ages after that, all that was allowed was face paint. They've brought masks back, now, but they're loads better.
BufftonBeotch replies on Oct 19, 2018:
That is another thing that is different. When I was a kid we just went out as a group with no adult supervision.

I had the cheap thin plastic mask with the elastic string and the plastic top and bottoms that matched. It was a smurf costume. I was teased to no end and very miserable

You must have been at the tail end of that era. It was what all the kids wanted when I was in grade school.

Oh yeah! The witch. There were not very many varieties at first. Every store had maybe a dozen? Pop culture introduced things like Planet of the Apes and Six Million Dollar Man for while but those awful plastic masks were gone pretty quickly.

@Byrdsfan She was. She died a few years back. All of those minor Savannah characters were very real and usually played by themselves.

Don't come in the summer. Way too hot if you are not used to that. Spring when everything in blooming very nice, St Patrick's day is interesting but very crowded. Fall is also nice but we haven't gotten any relief from the weather yet. There are plenty of "haunted" type tours.

One problem, that is not a Confederate General. General Greene was a Revolutionary War hero. He was Washington's most dependable General and liberated the South from the siege of Gen. BufftonBeotch replies on Oct 10, 2018:
It is a wonderful movie. Mind melt just now that it is over 35 years old. My daughter had not seen it since her early teens and I had downloaded to watch on one of the quiet motel nights. She said she had liked the movie when she saw it as a child but loved it now. Yeah. Adult and life experiences. So many more things you have actually had plop in your lap.
This is a great story. Does this means she rules us all now? Or something? [weather.com]
