If this is true , the Govt advisors got it totally wrong. There is reportedly a shortage of chemicals and yet a UK company is reportedly selling millions of testing kits abroad.
There was a story some weeks ago about a small town in Italy with a population of around 3000 where they tested everyone and isolated those who were asymptomatic and it stopped the spread of the virus. Obviously this would not be possible on a national scale but do those people not keep abreast of what is happening around the world.

@SenorRotten Personally I have nothing to do with it but as many modern drugs evolved from herbal medicine there must some good in some of it. it. Modern drugs are very powerful and for example prescriptiuon opiates kill many more people than herbal cures.

I am wary of modern drugs and only take them if absolutely neccessary but it has nothing to do with price as our drug prescriptions are free in Scotland.

I was a few hundred yards above a rough track from Balmoral to Glen Muick when a police landrover appeared on the track and stopped below me for what seem like ages as I climbed up. I could almost feel the eyes watching me and I felt a bit like Richard Hannay from The Thirty Nine Steps. Won't be up there this summer though unfortunately.

So if you are in, say, a pub or religious building or entertainment venue with 200 people and a large number don’t have symptoms but are shedding, you are breathing in lots of droplets per minute and absorbing a high load of the virus. In a crowded space. They become ill over the next 48 hours. You then three days later wonder why you can’t breathe and end up in hospital. You’d decided because you were young and healthy it wasn’t going to be a problem. Wrong.
Fortunately but unfortunately because the elderly are isolating quite well, the initial UK data suggests that all age groups above 20 are almost equally represented in ITUs in England. Most of the cases are in London but the wave is moving outwards.
This means that being under 60 and fit and well doesn’t seem to be as protective as we thought. Why? Viral load.
This may be skewed simply by the fact that too many Londoners didn’t do as asked and congregated in large groups in confined spaces and got a large initial viral load. They then went home and infected their wider families. Which is why, as London is overwhelmed, we need to shut everything down to save the rest of the UK. We are a week at most behind London.
Our sympathies go out to the families affected in London and the critical care teams battling right now to save as many as they can.
If I sit with one person and catch this virus, I get a small viral load. My immune system will start to fight it and by the time the virus starts replicating, I’m ready to kill it.
No medicines will help this process meaningfully hence there is no “cure” for this virus. All we can do is support you with a ventilator and hope your immune system can catch up fast enough.

I read about that disgraceful way that Britannia treated their staff yesterday. I hope the public have long memories after all this dies down and that they boycott that hotel group. Good for their rivals to step in...great public relations and humanitarian move from them.

Look after each other as I will my guys that are left and picking up the pieces."

I am writing to you from Bergamo, Italy, at the heart of the coronavirus crisis. The news media in the US has not captured the severity of what is happening here. I am writing this post because each of you, today, not the government, not the school district, not the mayor, each individual citizen has the chance, today to take actions that will deter the Italian situation from becoming your own country’s reality. The only way to stop this virus is to limit contagion. And the only way to limit contagion is for millions of people to change their behavior today.

I can hear you now. “It’s just a flu. It only affects old people with preconditions”
There are 2 reasons why Coronavirus has brought Italy to it’s knees. First it is a flu is devastating when people get really sick they need weeks of ICU – and, second, because of how fast and effectively it spreads. There is 2 week incubation period and many who have it never show symptoms.
When Prime Minister Conte announced last night that the entire country, 60 million people, would go on lock down, the line that struck me most was “there is no more time.” Because to be clear, this national lock down, is a hail mary. What he means is that if the numbers of contagion do not start to go down, the system, Italy, will collapse.
Why? Today the ICUs in Lombardy are at capacity – more than capacity. They have begun to put ICU units in the hallways. If the numbers do not go down, the growth rate of contagion tells us that there will be thousands of people who in a matter of a week? two weeks? who will need care. What will happen when there are 100, or a 1000 people who need the hospital and only a few ICU places left?
On Monday a doctor wrote in the paper that they have begun to have to decide who lives and who dies when the patients show up in the emergency room, like what is done in war. This will only get worse.
There are a finite number of drs, nurses, medical staff and they are getting the virus. They have also been working non-stop, non-stop for days and days. What happens when the drs, nurses and medical staff are simply not able to care for the patients, when they are not there?
And finally for those who say that this is just something that happens to old people, starting yesterday the hospitals are reporting that younger and younger patients – 40, 45, 18, are coming in for treatment.
You have a chance to make a difference and stop the spread in your country. Push for the entire office to work at home today, cancel birthday parties, and other gatherings, stay home as much as you can. If you have a fever, any fever, stay home. Push for school closures, ...

I watched Boris and his senior medical guys giving a press conference this evening on the latest developments on COVID19 and I was very impressed.

@Geoffrey51 He along with the two senior medical people gave a sober, measured press confeence. The attempts at containing the virus are past and the intention is now to slow down the infection rate so that the NHS can cope in a time when they tend to be busy anyway. There was sensible advice to those who may be infected and care of those susceptible to more serious health problems. The worst case scenario is that 80% of the population will be infected and there will be deaths in the vulnerable sections of society.

@Surfpirate The one I like, although there may be quite a bit of truth in it is that Turnberry golf resort was bought with Russian money and an MSP from the Green party has or is about to take the trump organasation to court over money laundering. This has upset young Trump, Eric I think, who had some rather unflattering things to say about the MSP.
As we have had no success in extraditing the woman who killed the young motorcyclist in England I Doubt if we will ever see Trump in a Scottish court to answer those charges.

I'm sure more than one biblical scholar has tried to tie this great event in with a total eclipse in the area but for three hours ?. That's stretching it a bit.
I have watched a young English illusionist who calls himself Dynamo and two young guys from Aberdeen who's names I forget re enact all those so called miracles including bringing the dead back to life. Very entertaining but not exactly novel.
The bible is entertaining reading but to put any credence on it being factual or truthfull beggars belief.

@Surfpirate The UK is not "heavily infected". Less than 500 so far. Compared to Italy,South Korea and Iran we are mere beginners. There have only been a handful in Scotland so it is unlikely that there is any infection at his golf resopts.
