Just curious how many people on here consider themselves 100% either liberal Democrat or conservative republican? ( in the “normal” way of thinking) Dont want to know which one, just whether you identify with one or the other without exception. just a simple yes or no?
Update...I’ve enjoyed reading all the comments and just as I thought so far not a single yes. I believe religion is often the key factor that would push someone to answering yes. I expected a wide variety of opinions from people on this site And that’s what I got. It gives me hope that in time as more people think for themselves we can figure this stuff out and make this world a better place.
I've said often: "The reason I hate Republicans is they force me to vote for Democrats." I'm comfortable calling myself "Liberal," but that doesn't make me a Democrat. I also like the term progressive, though there are aspects of that which don't necessarily define my philosophy either. But I will say this: "The Republican Party as it has become today, holds almost nothing for me." They've abandoned reason, embraced conspiracy, turned reality into "fake news" and vilified education and knowledge. That frightens me... It kind of reminds me of another time in history when religion had this much power... They call it the Dark Ages.
Well put
Republicans make up the right, Democrats make up the center, I'm on the left that hasn't been bought yet.
Is anyone ever 100% anything? We are complex creatures.
I am fiscally conservative so I vote pretty solidly democrat as they are far better about lowering the deficit. The whole balanced budget thing that one side howls about and the other side works at achieving. There has not been a fiscally conservative republican since Nixon.
I also ignore hyperbole. Amazingly both sides have legitimate concerns, neither side is evil or unamerican. When someone entrenched in their thinking is telling you want the other side is thinking they are blatently lying. Hint: I consider the ability to see both sides of an argument as a sign of intelligence, not a sign of weakness.
Im far enough left that if you compared me to a trump supporter Id obviously be considered 100% democrat. If you compared me to a human being then Im highly skeptical of both sides’ bullshit. Just slightly less horrified by the left’s bullshit than the right. But left wing, right wing, it’s all attached to the same bird.
Nope - Both old parties are nothing more than two sides of the same coin.
I am definitely left leaning, actually a lot left leaning and that is because the right has gone so far right that it is downright frightening, but if you are 100% anything you may not be thinking it all out.
No, things aren’t that simple. I’m also far left of both US political parties. I reject the two party system as well. The ‘rabble’ are busy hating each others ‘teams’ and fighting over crumbs, while those with all the power, and money coincidentally, keep gathering more of both.
No. I'm conservative about some things, and liberal about others.
I'm mostly conservative, except when it comes to equal rights and reproductive rights etc.
@SpikeTalon Those are important to me as well. I am very liberal on those two.
Check out party of reason and progress. I like them a lot. I also listen to San Harris a lot, who says things liberals turn their nose at, but I usually agree with him.
I think we need to abandon 2 party politics. Most people don’t have black and white views on one topic, let alone and entire spectrum of opinion across all issues. We need to stop pushing people in to 2 camps and start having granular conversations, issue by issue.
Nope! I drive my own road. Sometimes I run over Republiturds, sometimes I run over Demotards, it doesn't affect me one way or the other.
I’m a Canadian who’s lived in Texas for a long time. I travel back and forth frequently. I tend to lean more slightly right fiscally but definitely left socially. I would never vote for a republican in a million years at the federal or state level(unless the democrats put up someone as unqualified as 45). The repub party does not line up with my core values of family, health and education.
If this is an American politics only thing, most of us are far more centrist than you'll find almost anywhere else.
I have some conservative viewpoints and have never considered myself a liberal, nor am I a registered Democrat.
That said, I voted for Hillary because I saw the circus clown coming. It would have been nice if there was a viable third candidate to vote for.
No candidate, unless it is actually you(!) Is perfect. I care very little, if at all, for party labels. I Do care if you think the current regime is "just peachy" and what you are doing to rein it in!
I don’t think the Democratic Party is liberal enough. I don’t really associate with either party. I think of the Democratic Party as only the lesser evil.
