What are your personal pet peeves about religous people?
In your posts, please focus on the positive instead.
Mostly stupid questions about religion on a site dedicated into not believing in religion.
So, this poster’s a known quantity..? If so, interesting - if dirty ploy… we waste our time - and they delete their post. Hope if that’s the case ..they’re soon voted off our island ~
How oblivious they are regarding their delusional brainwashing.
The more suitable word is Deluded not delusional .Brainwashed individuals are DELUDED into believing in religious nonsense . People can not become delusional from being brainwashed .
@Mofo1953 fedup is correct.Delusions are only diagnosed if they’re not consistent with the persons EXISTING belief system and views. A devout creations talks to God while in church, that’s fine. An avowedly atheist lawyer starts doing it in the middle of a meeting, he is probably delusional. If both of them suddenly started saying the world is going to end in 30 minutes because of angry frogs living in the sun, they would both be considered delusional.
@Mofo1953 Your point means shit you delusional dumb ass .Any arm chair psychiatrist knows there is a huge difference between delusional and deluded .
@Mofo1953 Grammar police Busybodies , ha .You happen to be one of them you hypocrite. You recently corrected a member for a typo when you could not come up with an appropriate reply after you were correctly called disgusting.LOL
@Mofo1953 very intelligent comments .You have not come up with one valid response you moron .When confronted with constructive comments you lash back with curse words .But you seem to have a limited vocabulary in this regard . Keep going so you can continue to show what an empty headed filthy mouthed idiot you are .
@fedup I agree Atheists are so quick to label religious individuals as delusional which is Preposterous. Being deluded into believing in something is entirely different than being delusional.Being delusional can result from a Psychiatric disorder and prevent people from functioning in a normal manner.
Their unconditional support for Israel and the military industrial complex war machine. Most other things are trivial compared to the mass murder that results as a consequence of this.
I have a strong distrust of ministers. I don't know if that is a pet peeve or not. I just have too many personal horror stories to tell.
I studied to be one and I do understand you. Today we both share that distrust.
@DenoPenno I got mine the same way kent hovind got his doctorate. Much easier that way. lol
@JohnnyMiller I hear ya but I'm really not wanting to do marriages or anything. I hear Universal Life works.
Lack of critical thinking (at least regarding their religion).
Although I get along with religious people, it's probably only because I keep my opinions to myself. The vast majority of the Christians that I've known well (about 90% of the people in my life) have no idea what their religion really teaches, what the Bible actually says (they haven't read it except for cherry picked passages), how Christianity began and stole from other religions, how it has changed over time, the vast number of denominations/sects, the origin and inconsistency of the Bible, the harm their religion has done and is doing, ... They have no critical thinking skills, are not interested in learning, and are waiting to be told what to think by those in authority. It may be different in other parts of the country or other countries, but this is what I've observed in this area.
Recently at a funeral for a 10 year old boy, after the sermon, after the hymns, (and after very little was said of the deceased), the preacher asked for everyone who was willing to spread the word of Jesus to raise their hands. My wife and I were the only ones who abstained. Nearly a half of those in attendance were relatives of mine, and I'm fairly that certain none of them will actually evangelize. But they are more than happy to shut down cognitive processes when someone else is willing to do their thinking for them.
I can understand the power of indoctrination at a young age, so why do we not protect our children from having beliefs imposed on them before they are able to make choices for themselves? Why do we not teach them to think for themselves instead of just to blindly follow their religious leaders?
I generally get along with most religous people I know but my personal pet peeves are creationists and flat earthers. You could also throw vegans and anti-vaxxers in that category as well but it mostly has to do with a fundamental denial of reality for me.
My major peeve about religious people is that they all assume that they have the 'truth'. Only the bible is capable of sharing the 'truth' as they believe it. They fail to understand other points of view and refuse to acknowledge history, archaeology, science as founded on knowledge and research.
The only religious people I have a pet peeve with, are the ones who aren't happy with their religion unless everyone else is stuck with it too. The ones who want me to follow the rules of their religion, want me to be taxed by a government that favors their religion, and wants me to hate the same people they hate. The ones who pray and burn incense or light a candle in their own home or place of worship, I have no beef with.
They still live and breathe...waste of precious oxygen.
Many things but those that stand out are Christians that start conversations that are clearly meant to convert you and then when confronted with any evidence against their points they call it persecution. I guess number two would be telling someone that you are atheist and then having them read from the Bible as proof as if that bears weight. They have their ears stuffed with cotton or their minds are out to lunch. It proves conclusively that they just aren't interested in even considering your point of view so are not even worth holding a conversation with.
The Bible quoting guy. When I went to church, and I went to a great many, there was always the bible quoting guy. The guy who says at church "Do you know Jesus?" And then proceeds to throw down a bunch of Bible quotes randomly to show everyone how religious they are. Yep even as a Christian these people annoyed me. They could memorize the Bible all day and had no idea what anything they said actually meant!
Coming from one who once believed he had "The Truth," it is the arrogance of certitude--claiming knowledge of things one cannot possibly know. It is this attitude that pervades a vast number of persons in this country, leading to a virtual 'epidemic' of the Dunning-Kruger effect. A straight line may be drawn between the anti-science evangelicals to the White House which, as we have now seen, has a direct impact on public health.
Horse shit this is the stupidity and hoarding common to capitalism, not socialism. That's why it is happening here and not in Norway.
When they persist after I tell them I am nto interested.
That they come toi my door uninvited in the first place.
The lack of rational thinking.
I'm pretty sure the JW's get special bonus points if they can arrange a book study with an Atheist. It's all about the bonus points. lol
I don't think I have an issue with all of them to be honest. I do get annoyed with the ones that assume people are not Christian simply because they are unaware. To proselytize seems to quickly follow. The fact is that many who are non religious had once been but just learned a few things about it that did not sit well with them seems to be completely unfathomable to them.
I generaly put religious people into to groups. One I call sunday christian they go to church or chapel or a mosque and they enjoy it its part of their life and some of their socialising is done in the religious group. apart from that they generaly are like the rest of the community and are ok I have a few friends in this group one as arainged for me to be able to go up the towr of his churh and photograph the town from there. The second group i call nut jobs. To them they are right and only them are right theyu will shove their beliefs down your throat when ever they can when anything nice is said about them its praise jesus or alla or which ever imaginary friend they have I have no friends in this group and the one or two people in this group who i know tend to give me a wide birth
The ones that actually leave me to be who and what I want to be, how I choose to live, etc, I have no peeves with them.
But cross the line and start trying to convert/instruct me and my list of pet peeves becomes long than a man/woman can walk in 10 life-times.
