I do not agree with any relief. We are adults when we knowingly borrow money, not kids. When we owe money, we must pay off our obligations above all other things. The Democrats will keep losing elections when they start giving all taxpayer's money to their voting blocks. When you give-aways money and things for free, I am paying for it. I do not want to. My money is not your money.

If you do not want loans, do not borrow. Stand on your own. Scroll down and see easy rules of behavior I posted to avoid outstanding student debts for 15, 20, 30 and 40 years. How can that happen when all good things in life are going on... you buy cars, you keep shopping, you keep buying and giving gifts, you want wining, dining, European vacations, 3 car garage, leased cars, parties, you go to concerts, buy expensive sports games tickets... and you want all this to come above the monies you owe?

Biden probably knows that the socialist free give-aways is a political suicide. If that was widely popular, Bernie would be our president and the Republicans would not be controlling both houses, presidency and kicking our ass every day... Lol

Let us not mistake the current win of the Democrats in both houses. We got it only because of the anger against Trump. We benefitted because of negative voting. It is not a vote for the socialist agenda.

We should have more. Fully agree. This is described like going into a restaurant that offers only Tea or Coffee. Don't like the coffee? Take tea. Don't like tea? Try the coffee again. No other choice.

It is never free.......it’s paid for in taxes. Europeans realize that in today’s global economy higher education is needed, be it in College or Technical School (Trade School). This is also why taxes are higher there also. But it works.

No mitigation. You borrow, you pay like everybody else. Why not forgive my mortgages too? I have been an honest taxpayer and paid all my student loans 30 years ago (within 5 years of finishing school). Paying the money I owed was always my priority number 1.

I did not take European vacation while owing student debts. Survey all and figure how the money was spent whole they owed student debts. I want to know. Let the cat come out of the bag. I despise the notion of the damn give-aways on either side by the government. I am even against the stimulus to people earning as much as $75,000. Just give to people below and at poverty level.

That is the dark side of the Democratic party that earns the title of socialists and communists. There are so many other good things to do that are more urgent - there is infrastructure, economy, foreign policy, immigration, racial equality, social justice, democratic reforms etc. Free give-aways are not a priority and should not be happening at all.

Not very hard to do. Just 8 easy steps:

1. Not have BF or GF before you finish school. Hormones can wait, crotches can wait, your high school sweetheart can wait
2. Do not marry, don't make kids, college only takes 4 years and you will be done by 22
3. Do not pause or drop out of school no matter what
4. Know what your dream should be, do not follow friends and neighbors on the stupid American dream
5. Live on a budget, do not do things you cannot afford like European vacations, constant gift giving, new cars, don't spend money you don't have
6. Go low on budget after finishing school and getting a full time job, make paying off loans your highest priority. If you owe money to others, you do not have the right to go on spending on vacations, booze, gifts, and other fancy things. Fulfill your obligations first.
7. For life, save at least 20% of your net take home for life. If you cannot, reduce all other expenses- yes all other expenses
8. If you do not behave financially, morally, legally... you lose the right to advise others and think you are a smart ass coz you are not

Only mother's love is free. Nothing else should be free to anybody in life. We work, we earn and we pay. Why free? Every adult can make a living if he or she is willing to do work without conditions.

Why would you want someone to forgive your debt? Why can you not pay? Why has fulfilling obligations not been your highest priority? Where did your pay and other earnings go?

If the answer is you had other priorities.. I would like to know what more important things you spent money on. There should be declaration of expenses in the last 10 years in a IRS type audit.

When you want your loans forgiven, I will pay for it one way or another. Why?

It is not perfect. Just be normal. People around the world are doing it. We are victims of American consumerism. We all have sruggles around the world but we don't go around begging or asking forgiving our loans. We must stand on own. Unless there is a calamity beyond our control like an earthquake, volcano, deep depression.. we build own lives.

If you want free things, choose Cuba or Venezuela. You cannot expect to have the fruits of capitalism like competition, low prices, abundance, quality and still want free give-aways of socialism and communism. We are adults, not children. We work and we earn. No free hand outs. What should people feel who have honestly paid off their student loans with discipline and hard work? It has no value or they are forgotten people? What are we going to do for them? Give a lump sum to all instead to who had student loans even if paid off?

@St-Sinner I would prefer a reexamining of a debt which proves impossible to pay especially with higher education prices inflated & employment opportunities diminished. Not everyone knows how to handle their fiscal responsibilities. That is a failure of early education to teach economics. My economics class taught cooking for girls. We were not permitted to take auto mechanics which would provide a real job. We need some adjusting & the problem is we can't agree on how to do it. I have never reneged on a debt but some people are not a savvy as I, & need a renegotiating of the contract, lest they live a life in eternal debt. I will look for your proposal to address this problem.

Please tell me how you would reward who have been paying off and have paid their loans off, met their obligations? Give them a lump sum of $50,000 or $100,000? Who is going to pay for it? I do not want to.

The government has no business helping you meet your responsibilities. You are an adult, you took loans knowingly, you have spent lots of money of other low priority things for years and decades and now why do you not want to pay your loans off?

Give counseling but no forgiving loans. We all pay for consequences and reap rewards for our adult decisions in life. That is how life is.

Self protection is necessary in this increasing violent society. As a Texan, I want the government to provide everybody free guns? Would you as a taxpayer pay for it?

@St-Sinner Believe me I do understand your feelings on this subject. People fell victim to predatory lenders for lack of knowledge. Was it their fault for not being able to make the balloon loan. Yes legally. But should they be held accountable? Educating our citizens on common sense economics is essential to prevent people from entering into contracts they can not sustain. So what do we do in the mean time & how do we address the solutions to the to the inadequacies of our learned institutions? Their failure to teach simple economics.

Don't forgive loans. Freeze their credit. Give counseling, put them on a budget, legislate another chapter of bankruptcy to protect struggling families to reorganize finances. This would mean no vacations, no leased cars, sports tickets.. no more borrowing until you pay of student loans. Live within your means. That will do a lot of good.

Iceland is a tiny nation without immigrants and a homogeneous society where all are related to someone. Hardly anyone would want go and live in Iceland. New Hampshire says "Live Free or Die". Are we really free? The corrupt politics, lobbyists and special interests control our lives and the governments (federal, state and local) tax us anything and everything in our lives.
