@Leafhead, I've got an ID request for you. Eyed brown or pearly eye? I always get them mixed up. Can you tell from this angle?

Some of the neat moths that came to my lights last night. Pine sphinx, funerary dagger, Ailanthus webworm, straight-line plagodis, painted lichen moths.

A bad pic of a cool moth. This is Spragueia leo, the common spragueia. They are common and beautiful, but often overlooked due to their size. They're frequent visitors to the flowers on my mint plants.

While helping my mom unload plants and potting soil I took a look for the Abbott's sphinx caterpillar that I'd found at my parents' place a week or so ago. I found it, and it had moulted into its 4th instar (and my favorite color form) but it has ...

Last one for the night..... These are two exciting finds from today. The moth is the summer form of one I posted earlier in the year. It's called Scythris sinensis, and it's an Asian invasive (that, fortunately, feeds solely on an invasive plant)....

Any idea what this is? It was on a tree on Oahu, Hawaii and looks almost like a preying mantis egg case, but I have never seen a mantis here. Also, all the mantis eggs that I've found on the mainland were on stems or reeds.
