We have THE best bug wall at work! I see lots of mantises, walking sticks, etc... on it. This week, it's been mostly cicadas, post egg laying or mating. Today, I was able to camera "catch" this sphynx moth: Xylophenes tersa, I believe.

I've always loved spiders. They do there job and just kinda hang out. This one lives above my light in the corner of my back patio - about as big as my hand.

Our new rescue. Red footed tortoise. His owners got a new puppy who has been too curious. He's named Stanley. I prefer Elwood P. Dowd.

Unexpected Encounter. This guy buzzed me tonight while I was pumping gas, and landed on a nearby column long enough for me to snap a picture. Luckily, my windows were down and the phone was readily accessible.

I don't know where this snapping turtle was headed, but I made sure it crossed the road safely.

I may (haha) just be a big old weirdo but I was fascinated to watch these tiny ants relay a relatively large wasp straight up a perpendicular wall. It was an impressive feat!

Have you ever seen a male bald faced hornet? You probably have without realizing it. The difference in appearance between male and female is subtle and is usually most obvious in the antennae. Male hymenopterans do not sting, so they can be ...

I took my dogs to the boat launch to play ball and swim (if they cared to). It's been chilly lately and I was surprised to find this big bullfrog hopping among the dead leaves blowing through the parking lot. I caught the frog and took it to one of...

My dream snake. Green anaconda. Not sure if that is her size or it’s a perspective thing that she looks that big (or photoshop). Nonetheless a gorgeous baby.

I just got new scaled babies! The shop had told me that there was no way to get any, and that they would cost at least $30 each. (thankfully, they were wrong on BOTH counts). Meet my new weather (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus or wild type dojo) ...

I apologize for the quality of these. This moth was so large (4 in. long or so)I mistook it for a sparrow at first. Despite its size it blended remarkably well with the pavement. I had to toggle the colour balance to get it visible in the pics.
