The winter stoneflies are finally showing up!❤ Always an exciting sign that Spring isn't far off. And always a welcome insect sight after a bleak winter.

I heard about this on the radio on the way to work this morning. Morgan Freeman is working to convert his ranch into a bee sanctuary. I think it's awesome. Every little bit helps!

A client dropped off this 13.3 snapping turtle who was clipped by a car. Some shell damage, some soft tissue damage. Should be releasable with minimal rehabilitation.

A teeny, tiny, red eft that one of my coworkers brought me. (It will be returned to where it was found after some photos.)

So look who came out from under my deck for an evening munch ! Two youngsters, intently digging all around, til they slipped under the deck again. Some of my most welcome cohabitants !

My first instar Hemileuca maia (buck moth) caterpillars are doing well on white oak. As soon as I sew some new sleeves I'll move these babies outdoors onto live branches.

I just want to put this out there. I saw a post in a FB group by a woman who picked a wood turtle up from the middle of the road and took it back where it came from. That turtle will attempt to cross the road again.

Got this set up finally. I still have to build a larger filter, just have to borrow a drill. It holds 110 gallons . I put 2 of my larger turtles in and I'm watching them closely for now.

I saw this big female box turtle crossing my parents' driveway earlier this week. Tonight, she is digging a nest alongside the driveway, a bit further up. If she lays eggs there I will place a screen top to keep the skunks and raccoons out.

My trip to Lowe's was a bust, but I helped this cutie across the road in the way back. First live wood turtle I've encountered this year.
