My buck moth (Hemileuca maia) caterpillars are halfway grown. Typically scrub oak feeders, they are doing great on scarlet oak. In fact, they're at the point now that they can cause painful stings and welts if handled carelessly.

I can appreciate pinned specimens, but I really prefer living butterflies. These are the Little Wood Satyr and the Red-Spotted Purple (showing off its namesake spots). I think the RSP is one of our prettiest native species.
