Australian huntsman spider. they are rather timid, with an erratic way of retreat if frightened, which then freaks people out. this one used to live behind one of my paintings. including legs he is roughly 10cm (4 inch) in diameter or a big palm ...

Not much to look at, but always a welcome sight. This little guy is a winter stonefly. Sometimes they show up as early as January, so this year they seem a little late. But they always bring me hope that spring isn't far off!
