Meet Emily, my people kitty. I work with children with developmental disabilities and language disorders, and Emily loves them. Obviously, the feeling is mutual.
I have 5 cats, all rescues, so I accept the title of Crazy Cat Lady as an accolade. Emily is the only cat I currently have friendly enough to go to work with me. Friendly enough? Emily is more outgoing than I am!
I have no idea why black cats have a stigma, unless those who do not like then are just being racist. We have had a number over the years and find them to be loving and great friends. I think the one we have now is my muse. He comes over when I am writing on the computer and stands in front of me, sitting on the keyboard. I have to butt heads with him and pet him and he will go and sleep on my part of the bed. Cats are great, they have a special knowledge which they can share. We have another cat, Lilly, who sits in a chair like a human. She shares this chair with me and I can ask her to move and she does most of the time. If she does not want to move she tells me to get another chair. Lots of love shared with a number of graceful creatures over my life. All from either the humane society or by just having them show up at the door. Cats are always welcomed.
A lot of it goes back to Medieval superstition. Black was the color of death and evil in Europe, and black cats were thought to be servants of Satan. They were often burned.
This is part of why most "black" cats are not pure black to this day. The little white furs many have could have been the difference between being killed or let free.
Emily's white furs stick out of the inside of her ears. Nimitz's white furs were mostly on his belly and made his belly fur almost grey.
It was a Pope who started that ugly rumor! Centuries ago.
@TaraMarshall Best explanation of having white hairs in a black coat - survival!
She's a beauty!
And she KNOWS it. Half my client base is Latinx (possibly more), and they immediately call her "Bonita."

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
