I've been grieving a lot for Kea, both while she was sick and since we let the vet euthanize her Saturday. I haven't slept much. My baby doll had not been eating as much during the long hot summer, which I thought could be normal in a cat. When she quit eating totally, blood tests revealed anemia, but vet didn't know the cause--maybe autoimmune disease, blood infection, cancer, etc. Have been giving her oral medications for many weeks. Friday, vet found swollen neck lymph glands, suggesting cancer, and told us more intensive treatment couldn't guarantee she would live, and would cause stress. Saturday, we brought her back to vet for euthanasia. Since her gradual illness and rapid decline, I'm a total mess. Kea was strongly attentive toward me ... had her attention a lot while I've been active on Agnostic. It felt like she was trying to tell me something important, I thought affection. Difficult to get over her death. We knew each other since she was a tiny baby. I'm crying and wondering what i could have done for her to prevent this.
I don't have anymore to add than what has already been written, sorry for your loss
Thanks very much!
So very sorry to hear of this pain. Running a modest rescue we've lost too many, but some hit harder than others. One thing I'm sure of is that they feel our love and care for them and return it, and that we bring out the best in each other (most of the time). May you both find peace.
Thanks ... for the very kind reinforcement of my feeling that my pet loved me in return for my love for her.
She knew how much you loved her. You did what you could for her.
Thanks, I hope she sensed my love.
Sorry for your loss. I'm crying with you.
Thanks, I'm on the verge of tears rather often.
She loved you, and you loved her. You were with her till the end, one of the hardest things to go through as a pet parent. Hugs and sympathy, Go ahead and share how you are feeling as you need to. We are right here and listening
Thanks, she was my lovely darling for certain!
So sad for you. I have lost pets. Some hurt more than others. You grieve as though you have lost a part of yourself.
Yes, she was part of me!
Sorry it's hard to lose a furbaby
Yes she was my fur baby!
You could be describing my Lola. She died in April with the same issues. I am devastated.
I find it hard to comprehend that she could die at only 12 years old, and still be very beautiful and sweet in the process. Very unfair!
I am so very sorry for this loss, I know what it's like to lose a cat that you love. Wishing you find peace soon
Thanks very much.
So sad for your loss. You did all you could, so please don’t carry any guilt around. Grief is tough enough.
I appreciate your thoughts!
We are all doomed to outlive our loving pets. I feel for you, as I've lived through the same sad times through many turns of caring for dogs and cats. It sometime gets better after adopting a needy rescue kitten and focusing on that one.
Thanks ... very cute kitten! Kea was a rescue kitten.
I still have three other rescues to love.
@AnonySchmoose It is hard as I had to be there when a Tabby we rescued was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia. He was only 3 years old. We also had a cat just like yours. White, Abyssinian. She was 7 lbs of meanness. She was great as a kitten but every move made her worse. She was a good cat (except when she was at the vet) and her mistress named her Aspro (Greek for white). It's funny but as I'm writing this there is a TV show and a woman is showing her Russian Blue to some guy. She named him Killmousky.
@JackPedigo The kitten in the photo resembles how my Kea looked as a kitten.
@AnonySchmoose Very cute. Too bad kittens have to grow up. I have lots of shots of Aspro. She was always getting into things, bags, boxes and, when she was a kitten, she liked to get into a crock pot punch bowl. She was a bid odd and her favorite past time was hanging over the back of a chair and trying to catch her tail. It was very entertaining. I know, it's very hard to lose such a dear pet.
@JackPedigo
Aspro was a beautiful kitty girl.
So so sorry....I went thru the same thing this past year with a baby girl who had reached the age of 21. Her last year brought assorted health issues - all of which she overcame to one degree or another. I truly believe she hung on as long as she did because she knew what a mess I would be. I'm also sure that your baby - as well as mine - knew just how much they were loved.
Thanks ... your thought that they knew how much they were loved is very kind.
Your baby was really pretty!
Sorry for your loss. She looks like such a sweet, cute kitty.
Cute, sweet, smart ... the total package.
