Wow, first I’ve heard of an animal getting it. Hope he will be okay!

a big cat in the Blank Childrens Zoo of DSM Iowa was infected by a zoo worker and last I heard the zoo is still closed during the busy summer season... they have a wonderful aviary and butterfly habitat, the 2 walk through facilities are as up close and personal you will get to winged life that is safe for them... I think there are bees and a few wasp species in with the butterflies.... it is quite educational with posted tiny biographies of many species along the walkways to stop and gaze

I overheard two people saying dogs and cats can carry, but not get it. Guess they can get it.

And here they've been telling us , we coudn't catch it from our pets . If the tigers can get tested , why not humans ?

It is important to know if animals catch it from humans. There was an asymptomatic caretaker. Presumably the animals got it from him. Now they need to figure out if the animals can transmit to humans.

I can't find the right emoticon to 'like' this with, but this makes me sad =(

Why does the tiger get tested and not people?

I'm really pondering that one? Thinking they may have someone on staff who can look at a sample and figure it out?

Right now, if anyone notices a respiratory illness spreading amongst a group of animals (several there have a dry cough) it is important for us to test to know for sure if human-animal transmission is occurring. If you are an animal lover, cross your fingers that they aren't able to prove that these animals can pass it back to humans.

Edit: if, for instance, someone reported a group of rats with a respiratory illness, you can bet your booty they'd waste a bit of testing capacity on figuring out if that was SARS2 related...

Showing symptoms, yet a widely-reported "it can't be passed from animals to humans/humans to animals" MYTH worldwide. This would be very important to confirm/ disprove, no?

I hope my 2 Tigers don’t get it!
