I am not sure about the fatality rate for dogs but it appears the Bird flu is 100% fatal in cats (in 24 to 48 hours) and no vaccine is available at this time. The one for humans are in trial phase so be careful when going out. Texas and Kansas are states where it is concentrated but don't count on that for long start taking precautions now as the new variant has a high mortality rate for humans as well...
I live far West Texas we're no where close to the rest of Texas, we're treated like the red headed Mexican step child! All the bullshit you hear about the migrants are exactly that bullshit! When Texas had a freeze a couple of years ago, we didn't have a power outage, our power is out own because we're so far away from the rest of the cities in Texas. We should be a part of New Mexico!
The cats were on a dairy farm in New Mexico....
"Vets are being advised to wear full PPE (personal protection) if seeing a cat with neurological symptoms, after forty cats died on a dairy farm in New Mexico. The virus has proved 100% fatal and cats die within 24-48 hours."
@Lizard_of_Ahaz Where in New Mexico?
@michelle666gar
These are the ones mapped.... remember though this virus is transmitted by wild birds who often migrate for thousands of miles...
@Lizard_of_Ahaz Las Cruces, NM.,is 42 miles from El Paso, TX., those dairy farms are a little north from Las Cruces,NM., I know there's dairy farms right along I-10 on the way to Las Cruces. Close enough for anything to happen, I have two kitties who like to kill random birds, hopefully it will be a quick death for the three of us!
@michelle666gar Better to keep them indoors for the time being...
@Lizard_of_Ahaz We're gonna live dangerously, so I might be alive for a couple of months, oh well, it was nice knowing you and everyone in this site! Adios amigos!
@michelle666gar Live through the next election at least and let the Inbreds from the GQP die off...
@Lizard_of_Ahaz I live in a liberal city, we're not like the rest of Texas. Don't believe the bullshit rhetoric about the migrants getting benefits, it's total bullshit and just adding hatred and bigotry!
@michelle666gar So make your vote count while the Trumpanzees die from COVID and Bird Flu.... Hopefully long before November.
@Lizard_of_Ahaz Perfect! If my kitties and I survive the bird fly, I gotta work to keep them fed so they don't wind up eating infected birds.......
@michelle666gar If you need the help start a go fund me for cat food and a Chewy account and I will be happy to add $50.00 to it for you that should cover a 40 pound bag of shitter litter and enough canned food to last a month. Add about $10 of your own money and you should be good for 2 months...
@Lizard_of_Ahaz Awwww, thank you, but I can't lock myself up at home, I HAVE to work and I HAVE to take my mom to her doctor's appointments, she has a blood test this Tuesday at her oncologists office and the following week the results of that blood test, making sure she doesn't have a recurrence of cancer. I have to keep going I should go get my vaccinations, I need my fourth covid shot and a flu shot, I work for the elderly and I have to help them not get sick too.
@Lizard_of_Ahaz I just bought my kitties a box of 40 wet food cans, so that will last them for the next two weeks.
@michelle666gar Might want to stock up on KN-95 masks also to protect yourself, your mom and your kitties... You can get a case of 1000 masks for less than $100 on Ebay and if you work with the elderly you should be able to write those off your taxes...
@michelle666gar I feed some ferals in the area as well as my indoor babies so I try to keep at least a 3 month supply on hand. Right now I have about 10 pounds of grain free dry food and almost 15 flats of wet food in stock which along with the 3 full 40 pound bags plus about a quarter bag of shitter litter should be good for about 5 months if we end up in a state of emergency.
@Lizard_of_Ahaz I still have a box when I still had to wear a mask at some of the places I work at.
@Lizard_of_Ahaz I feed two ferals that hangout with my kitties, I give them some dry food.
@michelle666gar I am hoping it doesn't hit my area I have invested a lot of money in spaying the females in my area so we aren't flooded during kitten season and adopted out countless kittens to people who I have arranged for discounted spaying and neutering giving strong preference to people who would keep them indoor only. I would hate to start over from scratch...
@Lizard_of_Ahaz My kitties are spayed and neutered and so are the ferals that hangout with my kitties. We have a foundation who traps ferals and spays and neuters plus gives them vaccinations and brings them back to their area where they originally trapped them, so they're good with that.
@michelle666gar If I ever come into a large sum of money I want to start a 501c3 like that which would also adopt out kittens to good indoor only homes. Most ferals came from outdoor unfixed cats that were abandoned when the so called "people" moved out and left them behind to fend for themselves...
People like that are irresponsible pieces of shit.
@Lizard_of_Ahaz I don't know how people can abandon pets! I feel bad to force my kitties to be indoors, they have a natural instinct to go stalk and prey plus play and fight other kitties. Mine are both outdoor and indoor, plus my neighbor has 50% custody, he got attached to them when he took care of them for me when I traveled to Virginia and stayed for a few months during covid, so I told him when I came back we can share, I know they like him too, no worries. So if they're not with me or I don't see them outside, I know they're with him.
@michelle666gar Mine love being indoors they don't have to worry and get lots of love without having to worry about food. They are cool in the summer and warm in winter have windows to watch the great outdoors and often get treats when I am cooking like fresh cooked chicken or ground beef and even an occasional piece of steak....

Posted by LaurenI thought this was an accurate representation of how we feel every time we remember our last cat, which happens often when my daughter and I laugh over our current cat's antics.
