Yes, it is possible to both loath the U.S. assassination of Soleimani as a dangerous provocation and to shed no tears for Soleimani.
It is hard to unpack what this assassination was really intended to do. Was it a diversion from the Impeachment. Was it actually to prevent some sort of impending terror action against our troops or allies. Was it a show of power by Trump because of the embassy attacks. Was Soleimani a target of opportunity. Or was this another move to give an opening to Russia to extend their influence in the middle east in the ensuing chaos.
What ever the reason(s) is / are we may never really know. But I believe we have yet to hear it.
