In MA it’s indirect. After the voters have adopted a ballot proposition the legislature can amend or even kill it.

@yvilletom Arkansas is the same way. They regularly kill things voted on. And that's if they ever get to the ballot, usually they kill the ballot initiatives before they even get to the election

@wolf041 Initiatives in the states that have them have to comply with laws before they get on the ballot. As to after the voting, Ballotpedia.org says "The Arkansas State Legislature may not repeal or amend a successful initiative or referendum, except by a two-thirds supermajority vote."

@yvilletom aldo. Just re read thst... EVERYTHING passes by 2/3 super majority vote in the state legislature. Watching those c owns on PBS is repetitive. Anything any one of them brings up goes through. Because they want everyone else to vote on their crap. Its basically a one party legislature with only generally one outspoken voice .so regardless of what the people want. They get their way

@neutralite Ballotpedia dot org is a massive encyclopedia with hundreds of contributors and has newsletters, two of which I’ve been reading for years. I’ve learned my way through it. If you decide to study ballot measures, you’ll need to know how direct and indirect measures differ and whether they apply to statutes and/or amendments. Go for it.
