@Redheadedgammy That would force the good cops to start putting pressure on the bad ones to either shape up or quit, instead of keeping silent or staying afraid of the bad cops, because it would hit the good cops in the wallet.

No they shouldn't have guns. They don't in England for the most part and while there is abuse by the police you get killed a whole less often.

@Theresa_N yes, but most of the public don’t have guns here either. The US is a totally different scenario.
The police in Australia are armed, they just have a totally different system with using them. Unfortunately their deaths in custody record lets them down though.

First make semi-automatic weapons illegal and offer to pay to have them turned in. Then make guns illegal for all but hunting. Have police confiscate guns when observed. Then take away guns from most of the police.

@Theresa_N any form of licensing limits would be highly contested by the NRA from what I’ve seen, they just don’t seem to have any regard for life. It would be very interesting to know which gun manufacturers and their shareholders are members!
But the outcomes of their gun protections turn my stomach and that’s mild compared to those murdered, accidentally or otherwise!
